President’s Report
Our Christmas lunch was an extremely enjoyable event, at which we were entertained by good company, food and wine.  A great start to the holiday season.
On behalf of the Committee I wish everybody a good new year and that you continue to stay healthy and active Probus members.  It is in the activity area that the Committee invites members to consider joining the Committee.
Being on the Committee is a rewarding experience for all.  Over the next month, prior to the March AGM, we will talk more about this important Probus Club role.
I look forward to your continuing participation in the various Club activities in 2017.

Membership Report:  Following a review of membership by the committee, the number of members is 50:  29 women and 21 men.

Many Happy Returns of the Day for Your January Birthday:  Shelagh K 05, Nita R 05, Barrie G 11, Judy M 12, Judy I 21, Josephine T 22, Syd B 26, Peter M 29, and Susan M 31.

Note:  All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.  The next meeting will be held on the 21st of February 2017.  The committee meetings are conducted in the Northbridge Golf Club, usually on the first Tuesday of the month.  Members are welcome to observe.

Program of Activities

Guest Speakers:  Today we do not have a particular speaker, but will be shown instead a number of photos of Tasmania.  Next month we will hear from melanoma survivor Jay Allen.

Probus Walkers, Tuesday 14th February:  Lunch at The Little Snail, 50 Murray Street, Pyrmont.  This year again there will be a luncheon on our normal walking day.  Walkers and non-walkers are welcome.  TRANSPORT:  Park Street bus stop (between Pitt and George Sts., near Woolworths) bus 389 to Maritime Museum 11:26am, 11:36am (every 10minutes).  Alight from bus at last bus stop (Maritime Museum) and walk up to Murray Street and then LEFT over the pedestrian crossing to The Little Snail.  TIME: 12 noon.  CUISINE: French, three courses, 5/6 choices each course.  COST:  $38.00, steak $3.00 extra.  Alcohol and any additional side dishes are extra.  If you would like to attend, please list your name today or advise Oriel (9438-3893) by Wednesday 8th February.

Probus Outings:
Tuesday, January 24th:  By train to Kiama.  We will depart
Central Station, Platform 25, South Coast Line at 9:27am, arriving Kiama 11:39am.  Meet at the 2nd car from the front of the train.  If you no longer have the details, please let me know—I will have a few copies with me.

Tuesday, February 28th:  We will travel to the Wollongong Botanical Gardens departing at 9am.  We will travel via the Great Ocean Road.  The Gardens provide a 10 seater buggy and walking tours, which are booked for 11:30am.  Our time in Wollongong will be limited due to the distance we are travelling and the need for our driver to be back reasonably on time.  I am therefore suggesting we bring our own picnic lunch.  Picnic tables are available.  There are cafes nearby; however we will need to be on our way home by about 2 pm.  Entry cost is free, the tour fee is $11.00, and is organised by the “Friends of the Park”.  Please bring drinking water with you—it could be a hot day!

Fifth Tuesday Luncheon 31st January:  Our first 5th Tuesday luncheon will be at the Memento Bar and Kitchen in the Mantra Hotel, (9250-9555), 2 Bond Street, Sydney, at 12 Noon.  For further details, contact John Nixon, 99296054.
