 Newsletter 342                                November, 2020

President’s Report: I am delighted to announce the Club is to hold a general meeting on Tuesday, 17th November, commencing at 10:45am.  Morning tea will not be served.

However, the Golf Club management have stressed very strict rules are in place and should these rules not be followed we will be unable to continue to have our meetings here.  The rules are:

1. Do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

2. There will be a list of all our Club members with their phone numbers for people to have their names marked off, under supervision, as they enter the golf club.

3. Use the golf club sanitisers and feel free to wear a mask.

4. We will have our normal meeting room set up with round table.  On arrival please go to a seat and keep that seat unless you need to use the bathroom.

5. We must avoid mingling at all times.

6. For those wanting to stay for lunch after the meeting there will be designated tables at which you are requested to sit for lunch.  Table service lunches will be served at these tables only.

7. Following the meeting, members not wishing to stay for lunch are asked to leave immediately and not mingle.

Should people not obey the golf club rules, the club has the authority to ask people to leave the premises.

Ten members joined Janice for the 5th Tuesday luncheon at the Golf Club on 29th September, which I am told, was enjoyed by all.

I am delighted to see our Probus members enjoying our outings and walk/picnics.  We were blessed with glorious weather for our visit to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway and our walk/picnic in Davidson Park.  I was particularly delighted to observe how our club members enjoy being together, with much laughter and chatter being shared by all.

Christmas celebration:  It is still too early to make final plans for our Christmas celebration.  We are negotiating with the Golf Club in the hope we are able to have our lunch there.  Please put 8th December in your diary.

Guest speaker:  Jennifer Newman, who spoke before about Captain Cook, will give a second talk entitled, “Uluru Statement from the Heart”.

Membership Report:  Our membership stands at 53; 37 women, 16 men.

Many happy returns of the day for your November Birthday:  Clive W 09, Robin S 14, Marie A 15, Mary Ann I 21, and Evelyn K 26.

Probus Walk/Picnic Day:  Tuesday, 10th November.

This month’s walk/picnic day will be at Reid Park, Mosman Wharf.  Reid Park is a very pleasant small park at the end of Avenue Road.  Active members can walk along the pretty harbour side path to Cremorne Point and back, and those members who prefer a small walk can traverse the park.

There are public toilets at the wharf and also a cafĂ© for coffee/etc.

MEET:  Reid Park, Mosman, at l0:30am.  There is plenty of parking and also parking in Avenue Road.  Bring your own chair, sandwich/picnic for a social chat with other members after the walk.

Probus Outings:  Tuesday, 27th October.  Fagan Park, 38-48 Arcadia Rd., Galston.  An amazing  expansive garden that covers over 55 hectares.  It’s a wonderful place to explore as there is plenty to do and see.  Meet at the car park at 10:30am at the Arcadia Road entrance; parking is $5 per car.

Tuesday, 24th November:  Clark Point Reserve.  Wonderful picnic spot on Woolwich Rd., Woolwich, Hunters Hill.   Great views right on the water’s edge in North Sydney, this reserve has tables and bench seats and is easily accessible.  Paid car parking is available.  To get there, travel down Burns Bay Road toward Victoria Road.  Take Church St. exit at Hunters Hill.  Turn left off the exit ramp, then continue to Woolwich Road.  Follow to the end.  (Please don’t drive into the water!)  Pubs and restaurants not far away, or bring a picnic.  I can organise a place to eat.  Call or see me on 27th October, or call me on 0411 331 023.

From Jokemaster Patrick W:  Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam.  The last question was, “Name seven advantages of mother’s milk”.  The question was worth 70 points or none at all.  One student was hard put to think of 7 advantages.  He wrote:

1. It is a perfect formula for the child.

2. It provides immunity against several diseases.

3. It is always the right temperature.

4. It is inexpensive.

5. It bonds the child to the mother and vice versa.

6. It is always available as needed.

And then the student was stuck.  Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang to end the test, he wrote:

7. It comes in two attractive containers, and it is high enough off the ground that          the cat can’t get to it.

He got an A grade!
