President’s Report 18th October 2011

A warm welcome to all members and guests.
At the September meeting John Williams gave us an interesting talk on the antique
market in Sydney and then valued the treasures which the members had brought for
his valuation. He then judged an early street map of Sydney as being the most
interesting object

The monthly outing this month was to Bowral to see the tulips and other spring
flowers, then on to lunch at the Mittagong RSL.

Christmas is on the horizon and once again we need volunteers to entertain the
members and guests with carols. No great singing qualities are required, as I will
certify from my own efforts, but we do need numbers as our member from England,
Nigel, will not be with us this year for a start. Please give your name to Shelagh
Kemm at this meeting, and we shall meet for the first rehearsal on the first Thursday
in November at Shelagh’s house.

On 22nd November, Ian Savins has very kindly offered to show us his wonderful
collection of mechanical musical instruments which range from small music boxes to
grand pianos. If you have not been there before, I thoroughly recommend this outing.
Some members of the committee have served for a number of years and have informed
me that they intend to retire next year, so we need some more volunteers. Please
step forward as everyone should at one time or another serve on the committee. We
need a Speakers arranger, an Outings coordinator, a Vice President and a Membership
Representative.

The committee have decided to continue to subsidise the Christmas Lunch for
members, which will be held on the second Tuesday in December (13th), but have
decided that guests should pay the full price, though they are very welcome to join us
on this festive occasion.

The outing this month is to the Alpaca Farm near Windsor which should be yet another
interesting day.

Membership Report: The current membership is 61 (36 women and 25 men).
