NEWSLETTER No. 247 January, 2012
President’s Report 17th January 2012
A warm welcome to all members and guests.
Christmas is the only time in the year when our monthly routine is disturbed, but we
had an excellent Christmas lunch which was well attended, and I am assured the
carolers performed well.
At the November meeting, Judy Hawkins gave us an interesting talk on her family
history. I refrained from telling her that my great great great uncle probably started
the whole transfer to Australia as he was Lord Chief Justice at the time!
Everyone enjoyed the visit to Ian Savins’ home and saw and heard his mechanical
music machines, some of which he personally has restored. Unfortunately, I was
unable to attend this outing.
The monthly outing this month is a train trip to The Wollongong Art Gallery, which is
currently showing a number of exhibitions on aspects of migration. All attendees are
asked to meet at the North Sydney Station, Tuesday, Jan. 24th, at 8:45 am, to catch
the 9:04 train to change at Town Hall. Lunch at own cost is the only expense for this
trip.
Membership Report: The current membership is 60 (36 females and 24 males). We
have sadly lost Zena Saltman in November.
Birthdays:
Shelagh K 5, Nita R 5, Jack T 11, Josephine T 22, Peter M 29.

OUTINGS
Jan. 24: A train trip to The Wollongong Art Gallery, which is currently showing a
number of exhibitions on aspects of migration. We will meet at the North Sydney
Station at 8:45 am, to catch the 9:04 train to change at Town Hall. The only expense
for this trip is the cost of lunch in Wollongong.
Feb. 28: We will visit the Trainworks at Thirlmere. Home to Australia’s largest display
of rolling stock. Trainworks tells the story of NSW rail history. We will have a guide to
take us around, and we will also have a multimedia presentation in the theatrette. I
think it will be a fascinating day. Cost: $25. Please put your names down today; full
details of departure time, etc., in the February bulletin.
Note:
1. All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.
2. Committee meetings are conducted in the NSLC Bistro area, usually on the first
Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to observe.
