President’s Report 17 July 2012
Good morning everyone! I hope everyone is surviving the winter doldrums!
At our last meeting, Rod McEwin spoke to us about his project to navigate the Murray
on his windsurfer and/or paddling, a section at a time. He has yet to complete the
entire trip. Rod is raising funds for Aboriginal health at the same time. He was a
most interesting speaker.
At this meeting, the committee proposed and the membership voted unanimously to
confer Life Membership on Ian S and Peter M in recognition of their
extensive service to our club.
I gather the June outing to the Nan Tien Temple was enjoyed by all the participants
and I hear that the lunch venue was very nice. Next week the outing will be to the
Fire Museum.
Our walking group enjoyed the July walk from Stanmore to the Fish Markets. I for one
had never walked around Stanmore and found it interesting and peaceful.
Our membership secretary, Jill Kt, has been busy marketing our club to North
Sydney Council and the Wollstonecraft Men’s Shed. Her endeavours are greatly
appreciated.
Outing subcommittee update: Eleanor S has a new phone number: 9983 1439.
Membership report: Sadly, Girvan T passed away in June. Those of us who knewhim will remember Girvan for his sardonic humour and quick mind which often led to him
winning the quiz.
Our membership now stands at 56 (35 women and 21 men).

OUTINGS:
Our visit to the Nan Tien Temple was a wonderful experience with our guide, Bob, who
enlightened us about the concepts and the philosophies of Buddhism. We left feeling
very relaxed after visiting the beautiful temple, museum and lovely garden surrounds.
Lunch was at Illawarra Yacht Club overlooking Lake Illawarra, and though the weather
was rather chilly it was a very enjoyable and pleasant outing.
July 24th: Come and visit The Museum of Fire at Penrith, with its wonderful collection
of fire engines and equipment dating back to when we were all very much younger.
There is also a great gift ship, a must which I have been told to check out. Followed
by lunch at St. Mary’s Ruby League Club. It will be a fun day not to be missed. NB:
Just a reminder to rug up, because it is always slightly colder in the Western suburbs.
Bus leaves at 9 am. Cost: $25.
Restaurant lunch meeting on Tuesday, July 3lst. Please see John Nixon for details, or
contact him on 9929 6054.
Note: All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.

Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to observe.
