NEWSLETTER No. 254 August 21, 2012

President’s Report 21 August 2012

Good morning everyone! Hasn’t it been cold!!!!!
We had a very busy meeting last month with a short talk by Clive on their trip
to Burma and Tibet. As well, our speaker, Susi Prescott, gave an excellent
talk on her experiences in Arequipa, Peru, as a teacher in a primary school for
the poorest children. She also read excerpts from her book, “The Poet, The
Teacher and the Traveller.”

The July outing was a most interesting visit to The Museum of Fire at Penrith. Once
again we had a wonderful guide, the CEO of the Museum, who was exceptionally
informative and very keen on his subject; quite inspiring.

The Outing ladies are hoping that more of you will sign up for the outings as numbers
seem to be dwindling. The outing next week is to the NSW Mounted Police and St.
George Motor Boat Club for lunch. Please sign up today, and remember that guests are
also welcome.

We had quite a large group for lunch in Cammeray on the 31st. Thanks to John N
for this.

We had a good turn out for the August walk from Colloroy Plateau down to Narrabeen
Lake and around to The Tramshed, and enjoyed a lovely day, mostly sunny and not
much wind. Hopefully Spring will arrive properly soon!

Membership report: Regretfully, I have to report the deaths of John B and Rosemary
B, who both passed away in late May. Also, Marjorie S died last
month, having been a regular member since 2008. Our membership now stands at 53,
(20 men and 33 women).
