 Newsletter 363                                                    15 November 2022

President’s report:  A very warm welcome to all members and guests to the Probus Club of North Sydney.

Our October meeting was well attended to hear Karen Briggs talk about Anglicare’s Dementia Support program.  Douglas attended the workshop “We Matter” that Anglicare held on Monday 7th November.  He reports that it was excellent and we should all keep an eye out for it next year.  Let him know if you would like more information.  He will have the PowerPoint presentations available.

Our trip to Kiama was popular, with the blowholes blowing nicely for us and the restaurant providing a wonderful lunch in a very pleasant setting.

The annual walk following the path of Sculptures by the Sea was popular with 16 members walking and a further 2 joining us for lunch.

Probus Gamers and Chatters once again met on the 2nd Tuesday.  This is an informal meeting that all are invited to if you are not walking with Oriel.  Margaret R has agreed to coordinate these mornings.  Because the Christmas lunch is held on the 2nd Tuesday of December, the walk and the Gamers and Chatters will be held on the first Tuesday, 6th December 2022,

Three of our members accepted the invitation to attend the afternoon at Baytree by Ardency to listen to Dr. Norman Swan talk about staying healthy as we age.  There were members from other local Probus clubs there as well and it was good to discuss our various programs over a glass of wine and canapes.

Christmas Lunch.  Our plans are well underway for Tuesday 13th December.  We would like to meet at noon for a 12:30pm start.  As Robin mentioned at the last meeting the cost will remain at $45 for members and $55 for guests, which is the same as  for the last couple of years.  At this price, the club will be subsidising the event to encourage as many members and guests to come along for what promises to be a great occasion.  Bookings can be made online by payment to our bank account:  The Probus Club of North Sydney, BSB Act (please add Christmas lunch in the description).  Then inform Maureen T at maureen.tully@outlook.com when you have made this payment to confirm your booking.  Those wishing to pay by cash can do so at our November meeting by placing the correct amount in a sealed envelope with your name, number of people and “Christmas Lunch” on the front of the envelope and giving this to Maureen.  We are still hoping some of you may have photos of yourselves with Santa as children.  If so, please bring them to the November meeting with your name for return.  We look forward to our Christmas Lunch being a happy one following the years of the pandemic and frightful weather—so come and enjoy the fun, fellowship and friendship that Probus offers.

The 40th Annivesary celebration plans are evolving.  We will be holding a special luncheon at the View Hotel in North Sydney on 18th April 2023, which will be a normal meeting day.  Please mark the date in your calendar.  We would like to have more than 50 members and guests attending.  The contract has been signed and the deposit paid.  Consider asking friends and relatives to help us celebrate this milestone.  This luncheon will be subsidised by the club.  The colour ruby is for the 40th anniversary, so look out for all things ruby for the day.  The anniversary booklet is having a make-over.

Membership report:  Our membership stands at 54 (35 women and 19 men).

Many happy returns for your November birthday:  Kenn C 17, Robin S 14, Marie A 15, Mary Ann I 21, and Evelyn K 26.

Mosman we take a bus to Spit Junction for lunch at the
Mosman Hotel.  Non-walkers are welcome to join us at the hotel around 12 noon.

Events:  Movie 5th Tuesday the 29th November:   Please put in your diary now that we are going to the Orpheum Theatre in Cremorne to see a special screening of “The Glass Onion”, a comedy, murder mystery set in Greece and supposed to be very funny.  Daniel Craig heads the cast.  The movie starts at 12:40pm.  Those who want to can meet at the Siborg CafĂ© located behind the theatre and opposite the council carpark at approximately 11:30am; for a coffee and light lunch.  For those not wanting lunch, we will all meet in the theatre foyer at 12:30pm.

Note regarding the Christmas Lunch:  Susan M is hoping to have a video with music for our Christmas Lunch.  It would be helpful if you could send her any photos or videos you would like to include.  Electronic format would be perfect, but ordinary photos are OK too.  Please let her know of any particular music you would like to hear.  (Susan M 0406 939 170; smyers@myersoperandi.com.au)

We always need new members to maintain the vitality of our club.  So please invite those of your friends and acquaintances who may be interested in joining to come along to a meeting.  Guests are also very welcome to attend any of our activities.
