President’s Report 20th September 2011
A warm welcome to all members and guests.
At the August meeting we had a talk by Anne Goodrick on family law, in particular the
need to have a will and for continuing powers of attorney to be put in place whilst we
are still fully in possession of our faculties.
The monthly outing this month was to the Powerhouse Discovery Centre Collection
Stores, which is where the Powerhouse store all its collection which it is unable to
exhibit at its main museum in town.
As many of you probably know, most museums have a vast quantity of items which
cannot be exhibited due to limited space at the main museum and the Powerhouse
Museum is no exception.
One interesting thing I discovered was that the museum dates back to the Great
Exhibition at Sydney in the nineteenth century, so it has a huge inventory and we were
only able to see a very small percentage of its treasures. It was a fascinating
experience but unfortunately we were unable to fill the bus on this occasion and this
was a pity.
The outing this month is to Bowral to see the Spring flowers and this should be
another interesting outing.
