NEWSLETTER No. 249 March, 2012

President’s Report 20 March 2012

A warm welcome to all members and guests.
At the February meeting we had a very interesting talk by Dr. Ron Houghton on
the new world of aviation, which was an indication as to how he saw the future
of aviation would be.
The outing this month was a trip to “Train Works,” the museum of the NSW
Railways at Thirlmere. There was a most impressive collection of engines, both
steam and electric, together with a fine selection of carriages and we were
treated to a detailed description of all the exhibits by a volunteer.
The outing this month on 27 March is a visit to Woy Woy by bus.

Membership report: Current membership is now 56 (21 men and 35 women). We
sadly lost Jim Lemaire in February, and both Eveline Fitzgerald and John Byrne
have resigned.

Birthdays:
Kristina T 1, Robeyne B 8, Lis T 18, Girvan T 29, Elizabeth S 30, Juliet H 31

PROGRAM of ACTIVITIES
MONTHLY MEETINGS:

April 17: Brendan Walsh, a Professional Speaker and Communication Skills
Coach, will speak on public presentations.

May 15: Paul Barclay, speaking on “The History of our Calendar.”

June 19: Rod McEwin will tell us about “Windsurfing on the Murray.”

PROBUS WALKERS

April 10: Cumberland State Forest, West Pennant Hills. Cumberland is 40 h of
bushland with scenic walking trails. We will meander through tall eucalypt forest on
the Forestry Trail, explore rainforest on the Palm Gully Trail and the Sensory Trail.
Walking is easy to medium along the bush paths and there are some steps. Walking
shoes recommended. There is a Cafe in the Park for morning coffee and lunch, or
alternatively we can catch the Bus to Hornsby for lunch. Meet at North Sydney Station
at 9 a.m.; catch the 632 Bus from Pennant Hills.

OUTINGS

March 27: “A Scenic Drive.” I hope that it will be just that. There is so much beauty
in the area. I am not arranging for us to DO anything–rather, we can stop and walk or
just sit and admire the surroundings. We will find a pretty spot for Morning Tea and
then on to Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club for lunch at own expense. They seem to
have a varied menu and are located right on the beach. Home via Umina and Patonga.
Leaving North Sydney at 9:00 am. Cost: $25.00.

April 24: I have confirmed our booking on the historic M. V. Macquarie Princess. I
need a full Bus! It should be a wonderful day, and apart from our stunning
surroundings we will also be given a good lunch: Prawns, Smoked Salmon, Leg Ham,
salads and rolls, plus a dessert of cake, tea, and percolated coffee. There is a bar on
board and drinks are supposed to be ‘not expensive’?! We leave North Sydney at 9:00
am. Your Club is subsidising this outing and the total cost for the day will be $45.00.

May 22: A possible trip to Everglades at Leura. TBA.

Restaurant Meeting Reminder: Lunch, Friday, 30.3.12, at the Masonic Club of NSW.
Please contact John Nixon on 9929-6054 for further details.

Note: l. All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.
2. Committee meetings are conducted in the NSLC Bistro area, usually on the first
Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to attend.
