President’s Report
Good morning everyone! I imagine we have all enjoyed the Queen’s Jubilee and suffered
through the long weekend’s dreadful weather.
Our speaker last month, Paul Barclay, unexpectedly deviated from the published topic
and gave us a rather gruesome but interesting history of Vlad the Impaler and the
connection with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. My knowledge of the history of those times and
place has now been vastly improved.
At the May meeting, we also thanked Valerie for her tireless contribution to the Club
in her capacity as Outings organiser and presented her with a lovely flower
arrangement.
Seventeen of us enjoyed the trip to the Blue Mountains on a lovely crisp autumn day.
We had morning tea in a park at Glenbrook beside a most magnificent eucalyptus
sclerophylla (Blue Mountains scribbly gum). Our visit to The Woodford Academy was
interesting and inspiring. Our guides were Marilyn and Margaret who are the prime
movers of maintaining the site on a totally volunteer basis. Their enthusiasm was
noteworthy.
The June outing to the Buddhist Temple is looking for more attendees–please sign up
today and remember that guests can be included.
Also note that Marie is being helped by her subcommittee of Judy M (9411
7470), and Eleanor S (9908 2919). Please call one of them if you are unable to get
onto Marie.
John N arranged dinner at Lee’s Fortuna Court on Tuesday, June 5th. We had a
small group due to people being unwell or travelling, but those in attendance very
much enjoyed the evening.
Unfortunately, the walk scheduled for June 12th had to be cancelled due to rain.
I would encourage you to visit our website, www.probusnorthsydney.org, and look at
“What We Do”/Newsletters where I am publishing photos as well as the newsletters.
