NEWSLETTER No. 258 February 19, 2013
President’s Report 19 February 2013

Good morning everyone; it is so nice to see you all, and a warm welcome to our
visitors.
We are certainly having a wide variety of weather at present.
Last month’s speaker, Cindy Ren, was most interesting–-I always appreciate it when
someone is passionate about their topic.

We had a good turn out for the outing by train to Brooklyn–a lovely little village. And it
was great to have a few people with us who haven’t been able to come on outings for
a while.

We also had a good turn out for our 5th Tuesday dinner, which was held at InFuzions
in Cammeray, where we enjoyed a very nice set meal.

We have an invitation to attend Q & A on Monday, May 6th. They will send a bus to
collect us on the night and return us to the Leagues Club after the show. They have a
bus for 21 or a bus for 13. There is a sign-up sheet at the Outings table, so please put
your details down if you would like to attend the show.

Next month is our AGM! I cannot believe how quickly my year as President has gone.
If you would like to come on the committee please let us know. But please attend the
March meeting–we won’t be strong-arming anyone!
Our speaker next month is our very own Kristina, who will be speaking to
us about her experiences as a pediatrician in Ethiopia working for the Ethiopian-
Swedish Pediatric Clinic in Addis Ababa which I am sure will be fascinating.

Membership Report: The Club membership increases today to 51 as we welcome
Colin W. Our membership consists of 19 men and 32 women.

February Birthdays Joan H 4, Gwen M 21.   PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES MONTHLY MEETINGS: Today Ms Andrea Williams joins us to tell us
about the sinking of the POW ship Montevideo Maru in 1942. This was
and still is the worst maritime disaster of Australia. In March, Probus
Club member Kristina Tjernstrom will speak to us about her
experiences as a pediatrician in Ethiopia.

PROBUS WALKERS:
March 12th 2013. Mosman to Balmoral. This will be a short and easy
walk which will take us up to Rawson Park and through the Military
Base, continuing through tree-lined streets to the Lawry Plunkett
Reserve Walk and through the tramway cutting to Balmoral. Points
of interest along the way are the Scottish/Australian Cairn, a Gravesite
of a 1928 pilot, a grandfather tree plus relics of the old tram lines.
Lunch/refreshments at Mosman Hotel. MEET at 9:45 am in Carrington
Street, Wynyard, at Bus Stand A to catch Mosman 247 Bus at 9:56
am.

OUTINGS:

Tuesday 26th February: We are visiting Carrington Falls, then on to
the Cheese Factory Restaurant in Robertson for lunch. I am delighted
to say our bus in nearly full. Those who have not paid for this outing,
please do so today. Cost $30. Bus leaves at 9 am.

Tuesday 26th March: Visiting the Jewish Museum in Darlinghurst.
Mode of transport and time TBA. There we will view a display of the
Holocaust and an exhibition of “Dressing Sydney; the Jewish Fashion
Story.” Names taken for this outing as we have to advise them of
numbers of interested people. Pay own entry fee of $10, or $6
concession on the day.

Note: All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.
The Committee meetings are conducted in the NSLC Bistro area, usually on the first
Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to observe.
