President’s Report 16 April 2013
Good morning everyone! It is great to see you all, and I would like firstly to extend
a warm welcome to our visitors.
Last month we had our AGM, and a new Committee was elected, which is the
same as the previous one, except that I am the new President, and we have a
new Vice-President in Maurice Oxenburgh. I would especially like to thank Lis
Tinkler for her help in easing me into the role.
Since then, we have been advised that Richard Law will be leaving in July for a
three-month overseas tour, and would like to be relieved of his role as organiser
of our speakers after that. We are fortunate indeed to have found Peter Bates
prepared to take over this task until the next AGM, so let me take this opportunity
on behalf of the Club to thank Richard for the wonderful job he has done in
securing so many interesting speakers for us, and to welcome Peter onto the
team.
Our speaker last month was Kristina Tjernstrom, who gave a fascinating talk on
her years as a paediatrician in Ethiopia, illustrated with her carefully restored
and digitalized photographs–a real eye-opener for many of us, and a salutary
reminder of how lucky we are to live in a country that has all the facilities we
take for granted.
This month there will be no outing, but instead we will have our 30th Anniversary
lunch at the Harbour View Hotel in North Sydney on 23rd April, 12:00 for 12:30.
The cost is $45 for the buffet lunch, including a glass of wine. If you have not
booked yet, there is still time! You can book right now at this meeting, but please
ensure that full payment is made today. Hope to see you all there–it should be
a wonderful occasion!
