Good morning, everyone, and a special welcome to our visitors to our August meeting.
Our speaker last month was Patrick Haynes, who spoke about his experiences in the Antarctic, where he served as a cook with the British Antarctic Expedition. Later, he returned for another stint, and was in charge of the sledge dogs. This involved a trip of several months away from base, with just one companion: an incredibly tough life!
The visit to the Jewish Museum was most interesting, and enjoyed by all participants.
We have been advised that Mandalay reception centre at Lane Cove, the usual venue for our annual Christmas lunch, is being demolished to make way for a new development. The committee is currently looking at several alternatives, and it is hoped a decision will be made in the near future.
Membership report: Our Membership Secretary, Jill Kent, is absent due to medical reasons, and we all wish her a speedy and complete recovery.
Marie Ward has resigned as a member, due to serious health problems, and again I am sure we all wish her the very best. Today we hope to induct Jenny Coleman as a new member, leaving the membership total unchanged at 54, consisting of 33 females and 21 males.
August Birthdays: Arthur P 04, Ian S 10, Pamela G12, Maurice O 12, Valerie W 13
Marlene T 18, Dick L 19, Joan C 20.
