I am sorry to have to inform you that our long-time member Dick Lenehan passed away on 15th April, aged 90 years. With his cheerful disposition, Dick was always a popular member of our Club, and he will be greatly missed.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to our May General Meeting, and in particular, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members and visitors. I hope you will get much enjoyment from our Club!
Our President, Maurice O, has gone on an extended overseas trip, and is not expected back until the end of September, which is why I am writing this report. Safe and happy travelling, Maurice and Kristina!
At our recent Committee meeting there was some discussion as to the venue to be selected for this year’s Christmas Lunch. It was eventually decided that the lunch will be held on Tuesday, 16th December, at the Cammeray Golf Club. Further details will be advised at a later date, but in the meantime please be sure to make a note in your diary–this will be an event not to be missed!

PROBUS WALKERS:
Tuesday 10th June 2014. Woy Woy to Ettalong. A very pleasant and easy walk along the water at Woy Woy where many water birds can be seen. We continue up a steep hill and down into a park area. From there an easy walk into Ettalong. Lunch at Ettalong Hotel and then a short walk to catch a bus to Woy Woy rail station. Walk distance approx. 4 klms. MEET: At Hornsby Station, Platform 5 at 8:30 am to catch 8:53 train to Woy Woy.
OUTINGS:
Tuesday 27th May 2014: Names and money will need to be taken today for this outing to the historic Ebenezer Church and Schoolmaster’s Cottage near Windsor. We will have a short talk by one of the volunteers on the history of the church, schoolhouse and graveyard, which all date back to the early 1800s. Lunch will be at the historic Wiseman’s Ferry Hotel. The cost of the outing is $30.00, and I will also be asking for a $2 donation which will go the volunteers maintaining the Ebenezer site. The bus will leave at 9:00am, so please join us as this should be a very interesting day.
Tuesday 24th June: Names and money will be taken today for a behind the scenes tour of the ABC at 100 Harris Street, Ultimo. The tour is likely to include a visit to one or two of the digital production studios, an on air studio and news studio plus control room, all of which should be a fantastic experience. We will meet at 9:30am in the foyer of the ABC at 100 Harris St., which is only a short walk from Central Station, and there is also the 443 bus from York St., which goes along Harris St. The cost of the tour is $6.50 for seniors, and should you register for this tour you will be entitled to a 10% discount on any purchase at the ABC bookshop. This should be a very interesting insight as to what goes on behind the scenes of a radio and television station. At this stage we have not decided on a lunch venue.
Note: All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting, in June 2014, will be held on Tuesday, the 17th. The Committee meetings are conducted in the NSLC Bistro area, usually on the first Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to observe.
