President’s Report
Welcome to the first President’s Report for this Probus year, following last month’s AGM on 17th March. Elected to the following positions were:  Evelyn K, President; Clive W Secretary; and Susan M, Treasurer.  The Vice-President position was not filled.
The following members agreed to continue in their positions:  Marie A with our Club outings; Oriel T with the Walks; Douglas I with the speaker program, Ian S as our Public Officer, Lis T with membership matters, and Polly G editing the Newsletter.
In the March meeting, we were treated to a couple of excellent talks from two of our members.  Patrick Wtold us of the very exciting path his life became, and Syd Br gave us an enthralling and expert presentation of the theory of flight.
Tony K, our former Treasurer, has kindly agreed to stand in today for Susan M.  Thank you Tony, much appreciated!
Welcome and thank you to those members who have stood down, and those who have again donated their time to attend to the business needs of our lovely Club.
Today’s speaker is Peter Sweeny, on the subject of Gallipoli.
I look forward to a very productive year.

Membership report:  We have had a resignation from Bir Singh, which brings our numbers to 59 (36 women and 23 men).  Could I please remind all members that they should contact their carer, or someone on the committee, if they are going to miss a meeting for whatever reason.

Program of Activities
Guest Speaker:  Today we welcome Peter Sweeny, who will talk to us about Gallipoli.

Probus Walkers: Tuesday 12th May.  Circular Quay to Rushcutters Bay.  This walk will take us around the harbour to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair and along Mrs. Macquarie’s Bushland Walk.  We continue over the boardwalk at Wooloomooloo and pass the Kutabul base.  After negotiating a steep hill to Kings Cross and Elizabeth Bay House we walk into Rushcutters Bay.  Lunch at Rushcutters Bay Sailing Club.  Photo ID required.  Easy walking with one long hill to negotiate. MEET:  At circular Quay outside Wharf 2 at 9:30 am.

Outings: Tuesday 28th April.  Money must be paid for this outing today.  We are visiting Henry Kendall cottage and Museum at West Gosford.  A small fee of $3 to be paid on the day for our tour.  Henry Kendall was one of the great poets of yesteryear.  This will be a really interesting outing to view some of his work. Morning Tea will be at Somersby Falls on the way.  Lunch is to be at the Gosford Sailing Club.  Cost: $30.  Bus leaves at 9 am.

Tuesday 26th May.  Names and money taken for this outing to Wildwood Gardens, which was created by Wayne and Sue Tapping over the last 32 years.  This will be a lovely outing in crisp autumn weather, and hopefully the gardens will still be in full autumn bloom.  There is an entry fee of $6 to be paid on the day.  We will have lunch in their cafe, which they are opening on the day to accommodate us. Please check out the menu, at the Outings Desk, and let me know your choice so I will be able to tell them the numbers required.  There is also a Gift Shop to explore. Cost: $30. Bus leaves at 9 am.

Many happy returns of the day for your April birthday: Bob M 05, Gillian W 09, Rhona S 26, and Geraldine P 29.

Note: All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be held on May 19th. The committee meetings are conducted in the NSLC Bistro area, usually on the first Tuesday of the month. Members are welcome to observe.
