Further to the President's Report below, the club's meeting is moving to Northbridge Golf Club on Sailors Bay Road from the September 15th meeting onwards. The community bus for outings will collect us from the golf club.

President’s Report
Susan M and I met with Mary Sheehan, the functions coordinator of North Sydney Leagues Club, after our committee meeting on 4th August, regarding further negotiations over our contract with NSLC.  There was no possibility of our not being moved to the auditorium when a higher paying client required our regular meeting room.  However, I am anticipating some exciting discussion today regarding our proposed new ‘meeting home’ at Northbridge Golf Club, a proposal which I believe you are all now aware of.
It is a matter that excites me, and I hope it will excite you as well.  Your committee has been working hard and giving of their time to examine this option, with many of us visiting the facility.  I propose to discuss this and put it to a vote today.
Our speaker today will be Steven Carruthers on the interesting topic, “Midget Submarines in Sydney Harbour.”
Our outing this month is a visit to the Dingo Sanctuary at Bargo; the details of the visit are on page two.
Membership Report:  Today we are pleased to induct Janice Gentle into the Club.  Our membership is now 57 (34 women and 23 men), after the recent resignation of Jill Curran.
Many happy returns of the day for your August birthday :  Arthur P 04, Jeanette G 07, Ian S 10, Pamela G-H 12, Maurice O 12, and Valerie W 13.

Program of Activities

Guest Speaker: Today we welcome Steven Carruthers, who will talk to us about the Japanese midget submarines in Sydney Harbour.  Next month, Kim Hewitt will join us with a talk entitled, “My Life.”

Probus Walkers:
8th September.  Rhodes to Concord West via Bicentennial Park. This walk will take us along Homebush and Duck River and continue along the boardwalk through the Badu Mangroves Wetlands.  We should see a beautiful display of wattle in bloom along the pathway.  There are also interesting sculptures within the park.  At the wild bird sanctuary at Lake Belvedere we should see many waterbirds.Refreshments/lunch at Lilly’s cafe within the park.  Short walk to Concord West Station for return to the city.  Fairly flat walking.  Approximately 4.5 klms. MEET:  Town Hall Station Platform 2 at 9:00 am to catch the 9:12 am train to Rhodes.

Outings:
Tuesday 25th August:   Money for this outing to the Dingo Sanctuary at Bargo, must be paid today.  There will be a talk on the work that has been achieved regarding the breeding of pure dingoes.  The dingo has been part of Native Australia for a very long time.  Dingoes play a an important ecological role by helping to suppress populations of feral animals.  This will be a very interesting fun day away from the hustle and bustle of the City, as well as learning about dingoes.  Entry cost is $10 and is due on the day.  Lunch will be at the Picton Bowling Club.  Bus cost is $30. Bus leaves at 9 am.

Tuesday 22nd September:  Names and money taken for this outing to Kimbriki Resource Centre at Terrey Hills, where we will have a talk on ecological living and gardening.  Small positive changes made by all of us can have a significant impact on our environment, which in turn will be of great benefit to future generations.  The visit to Kimbriki will be very informative and a real learning curve.  Entry cost of $5 to be paid on the day. Lunch will be at Pittwater RSL.  Bus cost is $30.  Bus leaves at 9 am.
