President’s Report - October 2015

It is now getting close to Christmas.  We will soon be celebrating at Cammeray Golf Club again, where our booking was confirmed earlier in the year.  Attendance confirmation and menu selection is on the way.
Also it is getting closer to the AGM in March 2016.  We will be looking for new committee members to stand, as there are a number of current members who will be stepping down.  Please put on your ‘thinking caps’ and consider making such a contribution to the running of North Sydney Probus.  Members are welcome to attend as observers at our committee meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at Northbridge Golf Club, though we will meet at North Sydney again in November due to preparations for the Melbourne Cup Luncheon on that day.  We still do not have a Vice President for this year.
I believe we are now settling well into this new venue.  I have had no significant adverse comments.  Getting here for a few presented an initial challenge; I trust this is now resolved.  Here are the current times that may be relevant for users of the 202 Bus from North Sydney station that will have you well in time for the meeting:  9:09 or 9:24.  You will have noted that prepaid tickets are now required at these times.
Our September outing to the Kimbriki Resource Centre was outstanding, thanks Marie.  I think we all enjoyed the day.  We came away with so much new knowledge.  It was disappointingly poorly attended.  So many of you missed a great opportunity to learn about how our waste can be effectively managed and how we can usefully contribute.
Next month, on Tuesday, 27th October, we will go to the HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) Museum at Albion.  This will be a lovely drive South to the Shellharbour area, below Port Kembla.  It should be another great day. Unfortunately, I will be unable to go as I am away on a car safari to southern regions on 24th October.  So please enjoy for me.

Program of Activities

Guest Speakers:  Today we welcome Greg Clancy, who will tell us about his book, “Hitler’s Lost Spy.”  Next month, Lane Cove Podiatrist Stephanie Vidler will joint us.

Probus Walkers:
Tuesday 10th November.  Bronte to Bondi Beach.  This year again we have missed the Sculptures by the Sea Exhibits, but we will still enjoy the walk. The path has a gradient classed as medium, with many steps.  Lunch/refreshment will be at the Icebergs Club (photo ID required).  MEET at 9:33 am Liverpool Street bus stop (just around the corner from the Museum Station, Elizabeth St.) To catch the 440 bus at 9:40 am to Bronte.

Probus Outings:
Tuesday 27th October.  Money must be paid today for this outing to HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) Museum at Albion Park.  This outing was booked in March by request.  It is a wonderful opportunity to see this great collection of planes, including their latest and biggest–the 747, which made an historic arrival earlier this year.  Entry fee of $15 to be paid on the day.  Lunch will be at the Shellharbour Club.  Cost: $30.  Bus leaves at 9:00 am.

Tuesday 24th November:  Names and money taken for our last outing of the year.  We are visiting the Edogawa Commemorative Garden and Art Gallery in East Gosford. This is a beautifully presented, easy-to-walk Japanese Garden.  I also booked a Sunny Day, so this outing is well worth a visit! Lunch will be at the Gosford Sailing Club by the water.  Cost: $30.  Bus leaves at 9:00 am.

Tuesday 15th December:  Christmas Luncheon at the Cammeray Golf Club.  Details in the November bulletin, but mark the date now!

Membership report:  Membership remains the same, 34 women and 23 men.

Many happy returns of the day for your October Birthday:   Peter M 08, Eleanor S 26, Jenny S 27, and Tony K 30

November Meeting will be Tuesday November 17th.
