President’s Report - May 17  2016

Regarding the website update, it is proposed that a slide show be produced to make our site more interesting.  Suitable photos of members will be incorporated in the slide show.
Next week’s outing is to the Tobruk Sheep Station, located within the beautiful Wiseman’s Ferry area, overlooking the Hawkesbury River.
The June walk will be from Stanmore to the Pyrmont Fish Markets.  Oriel will  provide more details.
Our speaker today is John Nutt, who was chief engineer during the construction of the Sydney Opera House.

Membership Report:  Membership at the moment stands at 31 women and 23 men.

Program of Activities
Guest speakers: Today we welcome John Nutt, who will tell us about his role as Chief Engineer during the construction of the Sydney Opera House.  Next month, Clive Williams will continue his recounting of the history of World War I.

Probus Walkers:  Tuesday 14th June, Stanmore to Fish Markets.  The walk is fairly flat all the way.  Our walk will take us past a variety of trees and architecture in Stanmore, along the canal of White Creek Wetlands, which is the home of turtles and blue tongue lizards, and through parklands beside Blackwattle Bay.  Lunch/refreshments at the Fish Markets.  Walk classed as Easy and is approximately 5 klms.  MEET:  9:00am at Town Hall Station, Platform 1, to catch the 9:17am train to  Stanmore.

Probus Outings:  Tuesday 24th May, Tobruk Sheep Station.  Names and money taken today for this outing to “Tobruk”, located within the beautiful Wiseman’s Ferry area. We will experience an entertaining Outback Show which will include Stockmen on Horseback, Hot Billy Tea and Damper around a Campfire, a Duck Show, Sheep Muster, Working Dog Display and Yard Work Presentation, Sheep Shearing Demo and Woolroom presentation, Whip Cracking and Boomerang Throwing Display, plus a two course BBQ lunch.  The cost is $43 inclusive of lunch plus the $30 bus fee.  We will have 3 hours to enjoy this, as well as access to the beautiful Tobruk acreage.  Bus leaves Northbridge Golf Club at 9:30am.

Tuesday 28th June, Tramway Museum at Loftus.  We will be traveling south to Loftus stopping for morning tea somewhere along the coast.  The Sydney Tramway Museum is Australia’s oldest tramway museum and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.  The museum has an extensive collection of trams from Sydney, from other cities in Australia and from around the world.  Two tram lines run from the museum and we will have a half hour tram ride as part of the tour.  The venue is being opened especially for us on this day.  With 20 people, the entry cost is $12 and the bus cost is $30.  Lunch at Engadine RSL.  Bus leaves Northbridge Golf Club at 9:00am.

“Fifth Tuesday” Luncheon 31st May at 12 Noon.  The lunch will be held at La Bouchon restaurant, 104 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest.  Licence and BYO ($8/bottle).  Phone 9966-0906.  Please contact John N, 9929-6054, if you require further information.

Note:  All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of evey month.  The next meeting will be held on 21st June 2016.  The committee meetings are conducted in the Northbridge Golf Club, usually on the first Tuesday of the month.  Members are welcome to observe.
