Probus Walkers:  Tuesday 10th October.   North Ryde to Fullers Bridge.  On this walk, we will wander through Macquarie Cemetery and continue through Lane Cove National Park to Fullers Bridge.  This is an ideal walk for October, as roses and flannel flowers will be in bloom.  We may also see bush turkeys, water dragons, kookaburras, etc.  Walk classed as easy/medium.
Distance 6.5 klms.  Return by bus to Chatswood for lunch.
MEET:  St. Leonards Station, Platform 3 at 9:15am to catch the next train to North Ryde.

Nine avid walkers enjoyed our walk last month along the Cooks River.  We visited  a lovely coffee shop with beautiful chocolates on display, from which we were each given a chocolate of our choice to accompany our coffee.  The weather was great for walking and the reflections of the wattle blossoms in the water were stunning.  We enjoyed our lunch at the local hotel and the return journey to the city transited many suburbs as the trains were not running due to problems further along the line.

Probus Outings:  Tuesday 26th September.  We are going to Bowral and surrounds to view the colourful blooms of the Tulip Festival.  We will leave by 8:30am, earlier if all are on board, due to the distance to be covered. The cost is $30 for the bus.  Lunch venue TBA.

Tuesday 24th October.  In response to a request for a historical house tour, we are off to  Historic State Heritage Listed ‘Glenalvon House’ in Campbelltown.  Glenalvon is a classic Georgian sandstone town house, built in 1840 by Michael Byrne, son of Hugh “Vesty” Byrne, of the Irish Wicklow rebels.  Glenalvon is set in a large heritage garden, a riot of colour in spring, especially when the roses are in bloom.  Entry fee is $10, which includes morning tea, and the cost for the bus is $30.  Lunch venue TBA.

Last month thirteen of us went Whale Watching.  Our cruiser went out about 9 km through the heads, and we found ourselves among a number of juvenile whales who delighted us with plenty of action for over an hour.  They swam beside our boat, hung vertically in the sea with their heads above the swells, breached, and displayed their tails.  It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by everyone!

Last Tuesday of the Month Luncheon, 31st October:   At The Rag and Famish Hotel, 199 Miller
Street, North Sydney, 9955-1257.  12 Noon.  Modern Australian cuisine.  Please contact John Nixon, 9929 6054, for further information.

Note:  All our Probus meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month at 10:l5am.  The next meeting will be held on the 17th of October.  The committee meetings are conducted in the Northbridge Golf Club at 9:00am on the same day as the meeting.  Members are welcome to attend.
