From the President:
Sadly, the first event I attended as your new President, was Tony K’s funeral. Tony and Shelagh have been stalwarts of our Club for many years and his funeral was well attended by fellow Probus members. The chapel was full, everyone was dressed in bright colours at the family’s request, and it was a very fitting celebration of Tony’s long, eventful and happy life. We were pleased to hear Shelagh’s operation has been successful and we look forward to welcoming her back to our meetings soon.
My thanks again to Kevin D for his successful year as President, and also to everyone for the smoothly conducted AGM. Uncontested elections are usually a healthy sign that a club’s esprit de corps is in good shape! The incoming Committee is looking forward to another year of good fellowship and fun, and we continue to be well served by an enthusiastic and experienced team.
I have noticed, since joining the Committee a year ago, its composition is 30% ladies whereas the fairer sex makes up 60% of our Club’s membership. In itself this isn’t a problem, though I do support the topical discussion of gender balance which continues to take place in the wider community. Perhaps there are some more ladies in our ranks who can be persuaded to stand at next year’s AGM to enable us to reach, at the least, a well balanced 50/50 representation on the Committee?
I was very interested to hear three of our newer members sharing with us the vignettes of their life history after the AGM. Undoubtedly, though we are a small Club, we have a very rich and varied international tapestry to draw on. It would be good if more “inhouse” speakers are encouraged to entertain us with their stories.
CHANGES TO TODAY’S MEETING.
The Northbrige Golf Club catering department has requested we close our meeting early, due to the fact that the Club is hosting a wake early this afternoon for one of their members, and need time to prepare for the attending guests.
Accordingly, although morning tea will be as usual, our meeting will close 15 minutes early at 11:45, and only sandwiches will be available on the lunch menu.
Membership report: Our current membership is 56 (33 female and 23 male).
Many Happy Returns of the Day for Your April Birthday: Bob M 05, Gillian W 09, and Paul B
