From the President:
On behalf of 16 intrepid travellers, I’m pleased to advise last month’s Longreach/Winton trip was both enjoyable and interesting. Early morning starts were counter-balanced with little afternoon naps, and the plagues of flies were counterbalanced with both flynets, and a celebratory glass of wine when they all disappeared at sunset!
It was particularly interesting to see how some of these remote outback towns have “re-invented” themselves to attract tourism. The inexorable global urban drift over the past century has undoubtedly continued to change the socio-geographic composition of many rural areas. Nonetheless, these 2 towns are prospering well during their six months tourist season. They not only offer tourists an insight into their varied blend of history and local commerce, they also display a remarkable community spirit, which is sadly lacking in much of suburbia today.
Our particular thanks go to Clive for all the preparatory work he put into organising this successful trip.
